00:01
I'm Mrs. Brigman, a math teacher here at
00:04
GOC, and I want to talk about a really
00:06
helpful tool that can help you plan for success
00:08
here. That is using a weekly planner.
00:11
Included with this video is a template
00:13
of a weekly planner. It's very
00:15
basic, but it gives you everything you
00:17
need to set you up to be successful.
00:19
Notice that it's blank at the top for you
00:22
to fill in the week, and then it has enough
00:24
rows to cover all of your courses here at
00:26
GOC, plus a little extra space that we'll
00:29
talk about in a minute. There's a column
00:31
for every day of the week and there's even
00:33
space on the end for you to fill in things
00:35
going on over the weekend. So let's talk
00:37
about how to fill this in. The first thing
00:40
that you want to do is you want to go to
00:42
your course homepage for each of your courses.
00:44
On the right hand side of your homepage
00:46
you see that daily agenda there. If you
00:49
look at it more carefully you'll see all
00:51
the assignments for that particular course.
00:53
If you're caught up on everything you should
00:55
not see anything showing overdue and it's
00:58
just the assignments for the next two weeks
01:00
showing up. You can then use that to fill
01:03
in one row for that weekly planner template.
01:07
Or if you want to see all
01:09
of your classes together,
01:10
if you click the link at the bottom that
01:12
says view all work, it'll bring you
01:14
to a larger daily agenda that has all of
01:16
your work for all of your courses in
01:19
one place. So whether you go homepage
01:21
by homepage or you use the large daily
01:24
agenda, you can now fill out your weekly
01:26
planner. So let's look at an example.
01:28
This student has six classes here at
01:31
GOC. Notice their first row is their math
01:33
class. They've color -coded their different
01:35
courses, and every day they fill in
01:38
what they're working on. Notice that
01:40
calculus has something to do every day.
01:42
Brit Lit, though,
01:44
doesn't. However, there are two
01:46
quizzes that have to be taken.
01:48
In your Spanish class, you may not have an
01:50
assignment every day, but you fill in every
01:53
single class. Then at the bottom it says
01:56
extra. This person is involved in extracurriculars
01:59
here at school but they also have
02:01
other things going on in their life. Notice
02:03
they work Monday, Wednesday, and Friday so
02:06
they put that on here. They have a student
02:08
leadership meeting here on Tuesday. They're
02:10
taking a dance class on Thursday. Oh and they
02:13
have a dentist appointment on Wednesday.
02:15
All of these things help you to plan your
02:18
workflow. For example Wednesday might
02:20
be really busy with the dentist and work.
02:23
So you might want to work ahead and
02:25
get some of these things that are due on
02:26
Wednesday done earlier. That way you're
02:29
always working ahead instead of behind.
02:32
Then in the weekend column you can fill
02:35
in things that are going on in your life
02:36
on the weekends. That way you know that
02:38
if you do get behind how much time are
02:41
you really going to have over the weekend
02:42
to get things done. This helps you to plan
02:45
out and be as successful as possible.
02:48
Once you fill this in you can either type
02:51
it out like this student did, or you can print
02:53
it and write it out by hand. Whatever works
02:56
for you. Then I strongly suggest you do
02:59
print a copy and you maybe put it on your
03:02
refrigerator at home or hang it above your
03:04
workstation where you sit and do your schoolwork
03:06
every day. That way, every day when you
03:09
get up, you know exactly what has to be done.
03:11
You should complete this every week at the
03:14
start of the school week. Maybe take some
03:16
time on Sunday afternoon to go ahead and fill
03:18
it in for the coming week or Monday morning
03:21
before you start working in any of your
03:22
classes go ahead and fill out your planner.
03:25
Whatever strategy works for you to help
03:28
you be as successful as possible I
03:29
encourage you to use it. This template you
03:32
can make as many copies of as you need to
03:34
so that you should have enough to get
03:36
you through the entire school year if you
03:38
want. Hopefully you find this is a really
03:40
helpful strategy to get you through
03:42
and help you to be as as successful as
03:44
possible here at GOC. Thanks for watching.
