Mission/Purpose/Description:

Mission: The mission of NHS is to honor students who have excelled in scholarship, leadership, service and character.

Purpose: National Honor Society at Gwinnett Online Campus is an honorary organization for students who have outstanding academic achievement and who have been chosen as exceptional representatives in the areas of leadership, service, and character by a selection committee. According to the national organization's goals, NHS hopes "to recognize and encourage academic achievement while developing other characteristics essential to citizens in a democracy."

Description:  National Honor Society (NHS) membership has been the true mark of student achievement for over 100 years, but it goes far beyond a report card. By empowering, championing, and recognizing well-rounded students, NHS provides students with a values-based framework to elevate a culture of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Membership is available to 4-12 students who meet the academic requirements and are then selected based upon careful consideration of applications that display exceptional merit in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character.  Once selected for membership, students must maintain a commitment to these areas as well as continued academic success.

Mission/Purpose/Description:

Gwinnett County Public Schools empower student leadership through the Gwinnett Student Leadership Team (GSLT) initiative. Composed of nine carefully selected students – three sophomores, three juniors, and three seniors – GSLT teams are formed following a rigorous application and interview process at the beginning of the sophomore year. These high-potential students embark on a comprehensive leadership development program designed to build the skills and attributes necessary for effective leadership within their school.
The GSLT program promotes a mission centered on cultivating student leaders who actively contribute to shaping a positive school culture and driving academic performance. GSLT members serve as conduits of leadership principles, bringing valuable insights and learnings back to the broader student body, thereby promoting a collaborative environment conducive to leadership development across the school community.
Aligned with the district's commitment to world-class education, GSLT strives to achieve the following objectives:
  • Cultivate a leadership mindset within students, fostering a growth-oriented approach to personal and professional development.
  • Develop a cohort of student leaders equipped to implement leadership skills effectively within their schools and communities through peer-to-peer facilitation.
  • Establish a sustainable legacy of leadership within Gwinnett County Public Schools, promoting active student engagement and creating a school culture of excellence.
