Middle Grades Counseling

Welcome to the School Counseling Program
At Gwinnett Online Campus, our Middle School Counseling Program is dedicated to supporting students' academic, social-emotional, and career development in grades 6-8. Our program is designed to address the unique needs of middle school students through a comprehensive and developmentally appropriate approach.

What We Do
Our team of skilled school counselors leads a robust counseling program that includes:
  • Individual Counseling: Personalized support to address individual concerns, set goals, and overcome challenges.
  • Small Group Counseling: Focused group sessions to address common issues such as friendship dynamics, stress management, and study skills.
  • Counseling Lessons: Classroom-based lessons that promote academic success, emotional resilience, and career exploration.

Key Counseling Lessons
Our counselors provide targeted lessons on essential topics, including:
  • Title IX: Education on students' rights and protections under Title IX, including preventing discrimination and harassment.
  • Child and Teen Lures: Strategies to help students recognize and avoid dangerous situations, enhancing their safety and well-being.
  • Life Lessons/Suicide Prevention (7th Grade): Critical life skills and suicide prevention strategies to support mental health and emotional stability.
  • Career Lessons: Exploring career options and developing skills necessary for future career planning.

Collaboration with Administration, Teachers, and Parents
Our counselors work closely with critical stakeholders to:
  • Provide consultation on student behavior, attendance, and academic performance.
  • Develop strategies to support student needs and foster a positive learning environment.
  • Share insights and resources to enhance student development and success.

Mandated Reporting
In accordance with Georgia law [OCGA 19-7-5(1)], school counselors are mandated reporters. If we suspect any form of child abuse or neglect, we are required to report our concerns to the Georgia Department of Child Protective Services to ensure the safety and well-being of our students.
