Universal Screeners
What is a Diagnostic Assessment?
Gwinnett County Public School students will be participating in universal screeners in kindergarten through 10th grade. A universal screener allows teachers and stakeholders to formulate next steps in instruction and identify students skills in need of enrichment/acceleration or students who are at risk of poor learning outcomes. A universal screener is a diagnostic assessment that generates questions for the students based on the answer from the previous question. Students will see material that is new to them. They should not use outside resources for these questions, but instead make an educated prediction for the answer and move on to the next question.
The universal screeners are required by the district but can be completed remotely following the guidance on the following pages and information communicated via email. Students will participate in the universal screener in August, January, and May. If you have any questions, please reach out to the GOC Testing office.
- Grades K-8 will take the i-Ready diagnostic assessment
- Grade 9 will take the MAP diagnostic assessment
