WELCOME to GWINNETT ONLINE CAMPUS

Gwinnett Online Campus (GOC) is a virtual school of choice placement offered to GCPS students. While this placement allows for independence and growth for some students, it is not an ideal learning environment for all students.

Students with disabilities can require specially designed instruction and an individualized education plan to be successful within any school setting. The school and district need to ensure that each and every student has the opportunity to be successful within the digital learning environment. The IEP team needs to meet and make a determination on whether or not this is possible based on each individual student's level of need and support.

Students and parents of students with disabilities need to follow this process prior to acceptance into GOC:

  • The parent/student registers at GOC
  • GOC contacts the home school requesting records and transfer approval to attend GOC
  • Students who receive special education services transfer requests will be referred to the Special Education Assistant Principal at the home school.
  • The transfer request will be placed on HOLD and the student REMAINS enrolled and CONTINUES TO ATTEND the home school until an IEP meeting can take place
  • The IEP team will meet to determine if comparable services can be provided at GOC continuing to allow the student access to a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE). The following is a list of items that may be discussed during the IEP that will assist in making a decision:
    • Student Academic History
    • Goals and Objectives
    • Support and services provided that allow the student access to the curriculum
    • Student motivation (GOC requires independence and motivation to succeed based on the virtual method of instruction)
    • Parental support (Monitoring and supervision at home is critical when assisting with student success in a virtual setting)
    • Expectations of Online Learning
    • Student schedules, sample lessons and student interactions (student to student and teacher to student)
  • If the IEP team determines that placement at GOC can allow the student access FAPE while meeting the individual needs of the student, service hours and accommodations will be written to support the online environment and the student will be approved to be released to GOC.
  • If the IEP team determines that FAPE cannot be provided in a digital setting and that the individual services in person. needs of the student cannot be met, the student will remain at the home school and continue to receive
